New Hire Requirements

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 requires employers to report their new employees or rehires. Employers must report new hires and rehires no later than 20 calendar days after the hire date. Check your state's new hire reporting requirements to confirm compliance, as some states have shorter timeframes.

What to Report

Employers should report the following information: 

  • Employer Name
  • Employer Address
  • Employer Identification Number
  • Employee Name
  • Employee Address
  • Employee Date of Birth
  • Employee Social Security Number
  • Employee Date of Hire / Rehire
